However, they have very good chassis, using the same aluminum unibody design as the MacBook Airs, for hundreds less. They also pack TN displays, which have terrible viewing angles and black color reproduction, and they lack backlit keyboards. At the bottom end of the lineup, they use the low power Core M/Core Y CPUs which are great for battery life and sufficient for basic daily tasks, but not otherwise very powerful. The ASUS Zenbook line are MacBook Air clones, down to the rubber feet on the bottom of them. I've checked out the Asus ZenBook UX390UA, it looks like it might be along the lines of what I'm looking for.
